It is the 21th century, but Iran does not own a complete water and sewage infrastructure yet. There are many cities and villages all around the country that have neither plumbing water nor sewage system. The main reason for this is of course budget deficiency.

Regardless of having the engineering knowledge and accessibility to the main equipment provided by local producers, limited governmental budget and lack of interest in investing in the industry by private section have led to the net to be completed very slowly.

With a weak and incomplete sewage system, the country loses the chance of recycling a considerable amount of water which otherwise would be wasted. The current structure in the urban area can collect 2,243,078 m3 of sewage every day, and 4,964 m3 in a day for the countryside.

The volume of renewable water in Iran is about 130 billion m3 in a year which has been decreased by 25% due to inappropriate consumption patterns. Since agriculture is the leading consumer of water resources in Iran if this section consumes refined wastewater instead of pure water, about 70% of used water in the country would be recycled.

There is no doubt that to have a sustainable development, Iran has to invest on water distribution network and sewage collection system both in maintaining and developing. However, since Iran suffers from lack of budget and encouraging investors, the economy would warmly welcome any foreign investors and participants to invest in this industry and cooperate in complementing the network as well as maintaining and restoring previously completed sections.
