According to minister of agriculture, Iranian agriculture sector during the first half of the current Iranian year (March 20 2016-17) had a deficit of 1.5 billion dollars, which means that net import of agricultural products has witnessed a USD 220 million decrease compared to the same period last year.

Last year, Iran produced about 115 million tons of agricultural commodities with a value of USD 76 billion. However, large volume of importation from maize, soybean, rice and sugar has been creating a trade deficit in recent years.

During the first half of current Iranian year, three agricultural products have been on the top of import list to Iran by a total value in excess of 1.5 billion dollars. Maize, soybean, and rice are three items with highest import values just followed by automobile parts and cars.
